I don't know how to wear a maxi skirt!

I think I got it right? Sorry I haven't posted in a while, just got done with what felt like hell week of college. But now I have time to post my glorious outfits that I've been wearing in the mean time!
So, I usually don't wear maxi skirts because I have for some reason always thought they looked bad on me... even though I never tried them on or ever wore them. So, when my mom sent me this skirt in the mail, I thought "Challenge accepted!" and went about creating an outfit to wear with it.
BUNNY BELT! I found this gem in the local thrift store that I usually find absolutely nothing in. Actually found it 2 years ago before I started thrifting for real. I've always been this cool ;) I have such a hard time wearing it with stuff though. The color of the belt matches nothing and the bunnies are so eye catching I should really wear them with plainer stuff. The top I've worn before, I cut and sewed it up myself! The colors matched perfectly, all navy!

I later scratched the "NIKE" symbol off the shirt, so hopefully it will look less like someone's old work out shirt... which it is... shhhhh.

Sometimes my mom has good taste...

My mom mailed me this dress for Easter. She mailed me some other stuff too, but I will wear that stuff later. Don't tell her, but I'm not a big fan of the print itself, but I think it makes for an interesting, chill dress.

Nyway. It is sorta typical and mall-ish, but still looks bangin'. This non-cropped jean jacket I have had since freshman year of high school... weird huh? I'm just surprised it still fits. The beauty of denim. I had to wear tights. Ideally, I wouldn't have, but it was colder than what would have been appropriate to wear it without them. The necklace is from a sketchy street dealer at Parc Guell in Barcelona. 3 euro, I was ripped off.

Coolest sunglasses, right?! I wish they were perfectly round, but they would be less practical/wearable if they were.

Sometimes I just wear strange stuff

I found this shirt at a wicked vintage/thrift store in Philly. That is all I'm going to say. I don't want too many people finding out about my sources. Anyway, I think it was supposed to be 70s, but I think it is more 80s. I am by no means an expert though, so don't trust/ judge me.

I love when people wear long sleeved shirts with short shorts. It looks better with tight fitting black top with short shorts. This was fine though. The boots always look good.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Uh, I don't think I need to explain this one. The jeans are a dark purple/ plum color that you can't really see here. I always get compliments on them, either because of the color or because my butt looks good in them.
I layered two tanks, the flowery slinky one and a lace one. I think the effect was better than I was expecting.

Canadian Tuxedo

I wore this wonderful bow tie (THAT I MADE!) over the weekend with an outfit that I can't post on the interet in case I become famous (it looked wicked awesome, be sad that you can't see it). well, I was dying to wear it with something "normal", "conventionally appropriate". Yeah, so a Canadian Tuxedo was what I came up with :)

The first time I heard this term was when I was trying to party it up in Barcelona and this Aussie was teasing me that I was wearing a "canadian tuxedo" because I was wearing black jeans and a blue jean jacket. I think he was subtly trying to tell me he could see through me and knew I was a lesbian. Anywhooo, this outfit is truly a Canadian Tuxedo, and quite intentionally so.

Blue jeans, blue jean shirt, quite ugly brown lesbo shoes, and a wonderful, fantastic deep red velvet bow tie I made my self and is really just a pin. ;)

Rock-a-billy-ish

nice pic of my ass, right? #narcissist

Inspired by the wonderful Gabrielle! She told me to wear "high waisted jeans with a cropped jean jacket and a bandana"... I think, my memory fails me. Anyway, the point is she has good taste and I looked hot this day. I was also very cold, because it was cold out, but my room was hot, so I walked out wearing only this in 50s degree weather :O

So I later put a jacket on, but still. I also couldn't find my navy bandanna that was all beat up and perfect for this outfit. So, after tearing apart my room looking for it or adequate substitutes, I settled on this weird poly pink scarf thing that came with another shirt that I was planning on tucking into some dark scary corner and just forgetting about... which is exactly what I had done. Only by searching every weird nook and cranny did I come across it and deem it worthy in my desperate moment.

Semi Rosie the Riveter shot?

I am looking at this post retrospectively and DAMN I look like sex. GeT IT gURl !

Just found my perfect tattoo!

Hipster Central

*I'm not smiling in any of these pics because I wanted to look like the uber hipster I was trying to be. I was smiling all day, wearing this outfit was so much fun! The skirt billows in the wind and makes me feel like a fashion princess cascading down the path.

I haven't shown off this wonderful vintage find yet on my blog. This wonderful skirt I found in a Florentine vintage shop that was having a sort of open house and I had been asked to hang around the store in some of the vintage clothes. Sounds hard right? So much fun! Anyway, while I was waiting for someone else to change, I was thumbing through clothes and literally threw this from the rack. I was that excited, I dropped it. I dropped that chiffon breeze of perfection on the floor.

Nevermind my clumsiness. The important part is that I found the skirt. I had been seeing pleats and see throughness online for a while and had been thinking, "wow, it'd be great to find a see-through pleated maxi skirt!" combo of all things good and in fashion at the moment. Well duh, I'd find such an item in Firenze, Italia! A bit pricey, but so worth it.

Anyway, this particular bit of fashion godliness is bound to go out of fashion after next fall, so I got to wear it as much as I can now!

I also stenciled the tank top underneath myself. I am a softie for sugar skulls, as previously stated, and stenciling one on an already derelict tank seemed perfect.

And what makes every outfit better, even if it was already .1% away from perfection?! THE CROPPED JEAN JACKET, DUH! Now it is 100% perfection.

I just had to show off my white jeans. found 'em now aint never givin' 'em up. I like to wear them with black just because that contrast is too jarring to pass up. The tank top I got in Italy, cut the neck out, turned it around, still looked weird. then I cut the upside down triangle slits in it. I think that makes it look a little cooler than it did before. I really like to wear it with a cardigan or jacket over top and then stretch out the straps to over my shoulder. this makes the slits look like stripes and I think it looks moderny and not quite hip.

cool ass motherf*cker

This is a variation on an outfit I wore earlier. This is how I originally meant to wear this shirt, if you've seen the earlier post. High waisted, belted black jeans, this bangin' shirt and obvi the ugly ass boots. Thank the lord it was cool enough to do it this day. Walkin' around feeling like Shaft or something.

Wait.

Have any of you seen that movie "What Women Want" with that nutter and helen hunt? There is a scene where he walks out of his building and can hear the female doorlady thinking he "looks like Shaft!" You really have to hear the voice. Anyway. this is what I imagine everyone is thinking when I walk by in this outfit, just cuz I look like such a stud. I know, ego much?

Ooookay. So I really like how these jeans look on my hips, so I took a picture of just my hips... yeah, I guess it looks like just a pic of my crotch. sorry guys.

Tattoo tights... what a way to get attention

Cool pic, eh?

So I wanted to make some tights like the ones I saw on the runway in Jean Paul Gautier's spring show. So I went out and got me some ivory tights, and thought, "hey, I could totally do that with sharpie, right?". I had to admit defeat on this one. The Asian theme tattoos on Gaultier's were just way out of my drawing capabilities. Plus, I didn't have the right colored sharpies. I just have really bright ones!

I decided to do some really tasteful looking Mexican style ones, you know, the ones people later look at say "Oh those looks soooo nice, very creative!" but in their heads they're thingking "Not in a millionyears!" I'm also a softie for sugar skull design anything, and putting them on my legs was just too tempting. I should let you all know now too, that fabric markers and basic outlines would have been a much easier and lasting way to do this.

I stretched each leg over a piece of carboard no where near the size of my leg size and free handed from printed pics of other people's awesome tattoos. This ensured that the images would appear stretched and not like actual tattoos at all when worn. I then free handed some tattoos I liked from the internet onto one leg. On the other leg I made up some shit. I usually fuck up every gun I draw, but this one turned out pretty nice, I made it shoot out "Love Bandit" (something I saw on a Hello Kitty shirt in Times Square), but that didn't turn out so nice b/c it bled a lot.

I think the roses turned out the best. Maybe I'll do this again, but with a different color tights and with fabric markers. Only roses.
