what to do in the summer?

So, if you haven't figured out by now, I like to do things on my own, my own way. I messed up the length of these Goodwill mom-pants-to-shorts and decided to make up for it by dip bleach dyeing them. Granted, this is one of my more funkier outfits. Only wear it when I'm feeling especially confident and brave b/c wow does it get strange looks on the street!
I'm not such a fan of actually dressing in the summer. There have been points in my life where I wore nothing but a swim suit of some variety all day during the summer, and I'm not from California. Cut-off shorts and a bra. that is my summer uniform. of course things like internships and jobs get in the way of that. gotta look respectable I s'pose.

Ombre and D to the P

Bloglovin be where it's at yo
I am also "claiming" my blog on bloglovin so that is what ^ that is for.

I know color dying ombre is so overplayed by now (bleach is the new thing now fyi), but I couldn't help sharing my attempt. I think it went all right. It definitely would have gone better had I been using a container with a flat edge instead of a bucket with a curved edge, hence the cone/mountain/roller coaster shape on the front of my chest there. trial and error, trial and error. This shirt I bought as fundraiser from my college's feminist newspaper "The College News" and if you are a wonderful person you might go check out their site! D2P peeps.
slightly embarrassing, I know you'll judge. but hey, this blog is embarrassing enough! the back is worth reading! I AM A FEMINIST.

A little out there

I've noticed detachable collars are all the rage this spring, but worn with girly dresses. Never one to conform, I wore it with my grungey shredded shirt! I think I am either going to stud this collar or glitter it! I just cut it off a men's shirt. Easy.
My hair was SUPER curly that day too. Love when that happens.

Heehee, love this one. I look like a coked up wanna be synth dj or sumthing

I don't know how to wear a maxi skirt!

I think I got it right? Sorry I haven't posted in a while, just got done with what felt like hell week of college. But now I have time to post my glorious outfits that I've been wearing in the mean time!
So, I usually don't wear maxi skirts because I have for some reason always thought they looked bad on me... even though I never tried them on or ever wore them. So, when my mom sent me this skirt in the mail, I thought "Challenge accepted!" and went about creating an outfit to wear with it.
BUNNY BELT! I found this gem in the local thrift store that I usually find absolutely nothing in. Actually found it 2 years ago before I started thrifting for real. I've always been this cool ;) I have such a hard time wearing it with stuff though. The color of the belt matches nothing and the bunnies are so eye catching I should really wear them with plainer stuff. The top I've worn before, I cut and sewed it up myself! The colors matched perfectly, all navy!
RaWR
I later scratched the "NIKE" symbol off the shirt, so hopefully it will look less like someone's old work out shirt... which it is... shhhhh.

Tattoo tights... what a way to get attention

Cool pic, eh?

So I wanted to make some tights like the ones I saw on the runway in Jean Paul Gautier's spring show. So I went out and got me some ivory tights, and thought, "hey, I could totally do that with sharpie, right?". I had to admit defeat on this one. The Asian theme tattoos on Gaultier's were just way out of my drawing capabilities. Plus, I didn't have the right colored sharpies. I just have really bright ones!

I decided to do some really tasteful looking Mexican style ones, you know, the ones people later look at say "Oh those looks soooo nice, very creative!" but in their heads they're thingking "Not in a millionyears!" I'm also a softie for sugar skull design anything, and putting them on my legs was just too tempting. I should let you all know now too, that fabric markers and basic outlines would have been a much easier and lasting way to do this.

I stretched each leg over a piece of carboard no where near the size of my leg size and free handed from printed pics of other people's awesome tattoos. This ensured that the images would appear stretched and not like actual tattoos at all when worn. I then free handed some tattoos I liked from the internet onto one leg. On the other leg I made up some shit. I usually fuck up every gun I draw, but this one turned out pretty nice, I made it shoot out "Love Bandit" (something I saw on a Hello Kitty shirt in Times Square), but that didn't turn out so nice b/c it bled a lot.

I think the roses turned out the best. Maybe I'll do this again, but with a different color tights and with fabric markers. Only roses.

80s beachy grunge?

I made this shirt (the black one) last summer, but I didn't have time to wear it around, besides the house. I wore it in Assisi too, but it was too hot to be wearing black. bleh. I wore it this day because it was going to be hot, but not get hot til later in the day, so the blackness of the shirt helped warm me up in the early part of the day. I can never pass up an opportunity to wear my ugly black boots with shorts just because it looks so edgy and everyone (by everyone I mean a few ppl) always tells me (much later after meeting me) that their first impression of me was that I was "cool". I think this is because of the boots... and my obvious SWAGGA! The tank top underneath is a meshy "intimates" (pajama) top that I got at Gabes (Gabriel Brothers) for cheap and feels so cool and slinky... and is almost not see-through, but if you're cold ;) it totally is. I just so happened to get lucky and the straps are red and I have a red convertible bra, Wha-la, you hardly notice!

So, the shirt I got inspiration from a free people top I saw in their catalog. If you know something about t-shirt laddering, what I did should be pretty obvious. I basically cut slits down the whole the front of an already over-sized shirt and then laddered the slits twice. It doesn't fit so well, and looks sloppy, and the bottom curls up... but I still get compliments on it? So I'll continue to wear it... for now.

Yep, I know it's ridiculous

Yes, this is a leopard faux fur vest that my mom got for me, insisting that it was what was "in" and she saw them everywhere . While at home I wore it around the house with my pyjamas, ya know, in true trailer trash fashion, which only made the rest of my family laugh and my mom unhappy. I brought it along with me to college just to humor her. Well, whadayaknow if I haven't worn it twice already. The first time was part of an outfit I called "Russian oil baron's girlfriend", but everyone just told me I looked classy... and they weren't just being nice. I think this is when I realized it doesn't take much to impress people on this campus.
There wasn't really a theme for this outfit, I just saw the red pants, leopard jacket combo on the fall runways (again, I forget the designer, isabel murant?) and then paired it with THIS SHIRT- if I coulda put that in sparkly pink letters I would have. I FREAKING LOVE THIS SHIRT.

So this shirt is another one of my DIY/clothing mod projects. I was skeptical of it working out since I knew the minute I cut the shoulders out of this basic mens gym tee (so soft!) that the material around my boobs was going to sag. That is why I thought if I did THIS it would make everything tight and wonderful, perfect.

While it does look cool. It didn't really work for what I wanted it to. I ended up having to dart the excess fabric near my boobs and I thought it looked weird, but my friends insisted it didn't (they're so nice!). I've never done that before, but I might think about doing it more in the future. While it's def not perfect, you can hardly notice the imperfections at first glance, which is all I ask for. BUT DOESN'T THAT NECKLINE LOOK BANGIN' WITH MY HEFTY SWIMMER SHOULDERS?! HELLZ YES!

This one, I'm kinda really proud of

So, the peachy/salmon top I just found in a free box, and have pathetically been toting around with me for over a year now. I knew there had to be something good I could do with it! It fit really well, but the color was aweful (so I thought at the time, notice how quickly opinions can change!). So this year I've been noticing all the cut out pieces on the spring runway: of which I will find the pictures for later.

So... I cut out a triangular section from each shoulder of the top. I realized after I did this how big the section was and realized I would probably not be able to wear this.
*Epiphany*
The next Saturday I had a birthday celebration to go to in the city, and thought, well, this is a daring number, I think I'll wear it. I always planned to wear it with the high-ish waisted black pants with chunky belt (love the buckle's effect), but I didn't know what to wear underneath the polo. I think I was planning on just wearing a black bra and letting the straps peek out. SO, the epiphany was to wear my black lace shirt underneath.
Wha-la! Pretty peek-a-boo lacey shoulders with semi "in" peachy colored polo and tight black jeans.

I always wear black boots unless otherwise stated.
